What Would YOU With 10 Days and 1,000 Pounds of Butter?
by Jonathan Fields | 09/15/08

So, this wasn’t my planned post, but…
When someone in our Awake@TheWheel community threatens to send me a photo of a sculpture made out of 1,000 pounds of butter…then does, I’ve just gotta respond.
The image comes to us from Dan Covington and it shows what happens when you put sculptor, Sharon BuMann, in a refrigerated, plate-glass room for 10 days with 1,000 pounds of butter.
The sculpture depicts a brother and sister, rushing to get their bunnies to the fair and it seems as if they’ve crashed their Fiat convertible with the sister now sitting on the door painting her nails and the brother trying to hitch a ride somewhere. No word on the bunnies.
Of her frigid sculpting odyssey, the Hutchinson News writes:
She looked like a bag lady in need of a good night’s rest.
Layered in five shirts, two pairs of gloves and a Fair Isle stocking cap, Sharon BuMann was on her knees inside the glass-enclosed refrigerator at the Pride of Kansas Building, creating a Fiat out of butter.
When she stepped out of the freezer to warm up, rosy-cheeked from the cold, BuMann immediately peeled off turtlenecks. Slowly, she diminished in size, like a stick of butter on a warm day.
You’ve got to go read the whole story. And, check out the 6 foot tall butter Blues Brothers sculpture on her website. It rocks.
My only remaining question is…when’s the toast scupture coming?
So, what would YOU do with 10 days and 1,000 pounds of butter?

No question! I live in a country known for it’s dairy production, we export to the world. Yet the price of dairy here is absurd, 500 grams of cheese is approx $10 USD.
I’d sell the butter for a hefty profit and take the proceeds on a holiday to some gorgeous country in the south pacific, other than my own

wow. I have no idea what I would do with 1,000lbs of butter!
I wouldn’t want it to go too waste, so I’d probably drive to all of the local fire-stations & homeless shelters and see if they’d accept some of it, or at least point me into the direction of someone that could use it.
But, the kid in me wants to go spread it on all of my neighbors windshields.
