Who works harder, women or men?
Friday, January 4th, 2008
Turns out the old “women can have it all” line increasingly translates to women have to do it all.
A new study that compared the total hours of work and home tasks of women and men revealed that, when you take both into account, the average UK working man puts in 55 hours a week, while the average career-woman works a massive…

How to create mad-hot creative flow
Thursday, December 20th, 2007My weekly column over at FreelanceSwitch.com is up. Here’s how it begins:
When was the last time you loved working on a project so much, you became completely absorbed in it? Time stood still. Minutes became hours. Hours became days. And, it all felt like seconds. As creative professionals, we drop into this ultra-creative blissful zone here and there.
But, what if you could literally create it on demand? What if you could consistently cultivate that all-immersive state of mind where the product comes tumbling out with astonishing speed and remarkable quality, letting you not only enjoy the process more, but work less, take one more or raise your rates faster?
How not to get super-rich: the passive income scam
Tuesday, December 18th, 2007
You’ve heard it hocked by every “get rich quick” speaker and author for decades. Forget about passion, meaning, significance and just devote all your time to creating passive streams of income. You know, start a franchise, rent properties, write a book, create a viral information concept, rent billboards.
Easy schmeezy! Just buy it, build it, get it going, then let it run itself and throw off millions while you to just kick back on the beach and watch your bank account soar.
Problem is…the “passive income” approach to wealth is largely a big, fat scam!
Blogging breakout: voice rules, topics drool
Friday, December 14th, 2007
In June 2007, one of famed impressionist, Claude Monet’s, Water Lilies paintings sold at auction for $37.5 million USD. Last week, I painted a picture of water lilies, too. It hasn’t sold yet, but I’m quite sure it’ll go for at least a buck. Why do you care?
Because, if you blog, if you write, if you paint, if you create…anything, there will come a time where you look at what everyone else is doing, especially the leaders in your field, and wonder…
Got guts?
Monday, December 10th, 2007Today launched my inaugural weekly lifestyle column over at lifehack.org. The article is entitled, “How to get gutsy.” Here’s a quick look…
“If you wanna run with the big dogs, you’ve gotta get off the porch.” This was the sage advice given to me some years ago as I considered my first entrepreneurial venture. You’ve got to take risks. Be gutsy. All of which led me to wonder what guts really is. And, more importantly, if you don’t have it, can you get it?

Are you topping-off your life?
Friday, November 23rd, 2007
Simple question—are the rules you live by irrelevant to the way you want to live your life?
Yesterday, while driving the family out to my mother-in-law’s house for Thanksgiving, I stopped to fill up the tank with gas. I provided my credit card to the attendant and he promptly clicked the auto-flow button on the nozzle and let the pump do its thing. A few minutes later, the nozzle clicked to a stop, signaling the tank was full. That should have been the end of this story…but it wasn’t.

A 22-year IT guru asks how to get prospects to take him seriously at such a young age. He’s got the chops, now he needs to figure out how to get the clients.
